Welcome to
The Animal Rescue Alliance
Helping homeless pets
in the Greater Kansas City area
Founded in 2007
Dedicated to Saving Lives
TARA is a non-profit 501c3, all volunteer organization dedicated to helping homeless pets in the Greater Kansas City area.
TARA was founded in memory of Tara Nagel, a remarkable young woman whose kindness and compassion toward companion animals left a lasting impact. Tara tragically lost her life in a car accident in 2005. Inspired by her passion and dedication, we strive to honor Tara’s legacy by saving lives and ensuring that every animal receives the love and care they deserve.
Our mission reflects her spirit, motivating us every day to make a difference for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Foster Homes Needed
TARA receives constant pleas to save dogs in overcrowded shelters who have been placed on the euthanasia list. Seniors, puppies, big and small dogs, all whose lives are in danger because the shelter is out of space. We help as much as we can, with every dog we save going to one of our wonderful foster homes or to boarding, which we pay for daily. Once those spots are full, we simply can’t take in more. It’s heartbreaking.
Please consider fostering. We will help match you with a dog in urgent need who is a good fit for your family and your own pets. We can provide food and supplies, and medical costs are covered.
Even a short-term foster can literally save a life.
If you’re not able to foster a dog at this time, you can still help us save lives! Please consider making a donation to help cover costs.
